On 23/8/2013 the University for Information Science and Technology St Paul The Apostle (UIST) initiated a new Center for BioEngineering (CBE) featuring three biomedical research laboratories. The Biomedical Computer Vision Laboratory (BCVL) is focused on the computational analysis of microscopy images of cancer cells, the head of BCVL is Alexandre Matov, PhD. The BioInformatcis and Genomic Privacy Laboratory (BIGL) studies the privacy issues associated with DNA sequencing. The head of the BIGL lab is Ninoslav Marina, PhD. The Bio and IT Innovation Laboratory (BITI), headed by Bratislav Stankovic, PhD, strives to foster and harness the innovative potential of research projects at the interface of computing and biology. The new CBE will be dedicated to applying contemporary IT technologies to address important questions in the areas of biology and medicine.
